Pocono Mountain Run for the Red
Marathon
5K ROAD RACE
Walkers are invited to participate in the 5K Road Race.
There is less than one month
until the first ever Pocono Mountain Run for the Red
Marathon and 5K Road Race. If a 26.2-mile marathon run is
not your speed the 5K Road Race is a great option. On May
7, 2006, the 5K Road Race will start at 8am from the
Stroudsburg High School stadium. Organizers have
decided to open the 5K Road Race to WALKERS!
Race Executive
Director Bob Werts made the decision saying, By opening the
5K up to walkers, we are allowing everyone who wants to
support the local chapter of the American Red Cross, an
opportunity to get involved and be part of the festivities
of Marathon weekend! The 5K Road Race is now open to
runners and walkers of all ages. It will start and finish at
the Stroudsburg High School stadium.
The 5K Road
Race will begin at 8am, runners and walkers will exit the
stadium, and turn onto Main Street. They will continue on
Main Street then turn onto 6th Street, and then
to Scott Street. Finally turning onto Wallace Street. They
will run or walk on Wallace to the halfway point where they
will turn around and head back to the stadium. The 5K race
course is made up of the last portion of the marathon course
and includes just one hill.
Race organizers hope to
attract lots of local runners and walkers, including
children. Registration is $15 if paid prior to race day.
Race day registration is $20. Registration is simple, and
can be accessed through our website
poconomarathon.org or by
visiting Active.com. The
top two finishers in all age group will receive medals. All
race participants will receive a ribbon, along with a
T-shirt.
The Pocono
Mountains Run for the Red 5K Road Race will benefit the
Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross. All funds
received will go directly to the local
chapters disaster relief efforts. Martha LaBar, Executive
Director for the American Red Cross of Monroe County said,
This event will be a tremendous help for our disaster
relief program, and I hope many people will come out to run
or just cheer on all the participants!
Anyone wishing to find out
more about should contact the Red Cross of Monroe County at
570-476-3800 or visit the website
