Mountain Run for the Red
Marathon
The Countdown is on to
the first ever Marathon road race in the Pocono Mountains!
It all
happens in 100 days!!!
May 7, 2006
is the day distance runners
from Pennsylvania and beyond will take part in an officially
certified 26.2-mile marathon course through some of the most
beautiful scenery in Pennsylvania.
For the next 100 days, race
organizers hope to recruit volunteers to help with a variety
of tasks. Race Executive Director Bob Werts said, We need
volunteers to help with every aspect of this race. It would
be great to have more than 1,000 volunteers. An event like
this requires a lot of community support and we are hopeful
the civic groups, clubs, any anyone interested in being part
of this premier event will get involved.
Volunteers can check out the
website
www.poconomarathon.org and click on the Volunteer
link to find out about the different types of volunteer
responsibilities. Anyone wishing to volunteer can also
contact the Red Cross chapter office at 1-570-476-3800 to
sign up.
With
100 days until the marathon, we need at least 10 volunteers
to sign up everyday!
Volunteers can help with an assortment of responsibilities
from helping hand out water on race day, to manning the
registration table at the Host Hotel, The Best Western in
Stroudsburg. Volunteers are also needed to plan the Pasta
Party, and help stuff all the goodies into the gym bags each
runner will receive.
The
Pocono Mountain Run for the Red Marathon is an exciting
undertaking for the local American Red Cross of Monroe
County and volunteers will make it a huge success! Martha
LaBar, Executive Director for the American Red Cross of
Monroe County said. All the money raised through the
Marathon will go directly to help the local disaster relief
program. |
