This Marathon is going to be a great race and we wanted to give out prize money so top runners that are not familiar with the beautiful Pocono Mountains have a reason to come here and compete, according to Race Executive Director Bob Werts. "We also decided to recognize top athletes in a number of age groups with trophies because running 26.2 miles is quite an accomplishment.

Runners who would like to register for the Pocono Mountain Run for the Red Marathon can do so through our website www.poconomarathon.org.

The race begins at 8am at the Clear Run Elementary School on Route 611 in Coolbaugh Township (Near Tobyhanna).  The course then travels through Mt. Pocono onto PA Routes 940 and 191 through Paradise Valley, Henryville, Analomink, and eventually into Stroudsburg, ending at the Stroudsburg High School stadium.  The fast course was designed by experienced marathon runners and includes a drop in elevation of nearly 1000 feet.

The Pocono Mountains Run for the Red Marathon will benefit the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross.  All funds received will go directly to the local chapters disaster relief efforts.

Race day will also include a Run For the Red Fun Run. The 5K run will finish at the Stroudsburg High School Stadium. Werts said This encourages runners who might not ordinarily think of running a full marathon the opportunity to support our local Red Cross chapter by joining the event and running a shorter distance.
